Taking place between the time of the X-2 and X-3 movies, X-Men The Official Game tells the story of three very distinct mutants; Wolverine the enraged brawler, Iceman the master of freezing water, and Nightcrawler, the teleporting self-proclaimed pacifist. Hint - Share The Achievement
May not be valid for subsequent Xbox patches.

All acheivments in the game can be obtained by someone else, but applied to your gamer score by playing in co-op. The trick requires two friends playing co-op frogger.

First, start a co-op game with someone who is good at the game (GAMER 1). YOU must host the match (you are on the left screen). Have your other friend (GAMER 2) host a private co-op match and send you an invite to it (don't accept it just yet).

Play through the co-op game, it does not matter if YOU die as long as GAMER 1 obtains the criteria for the achievment. As soon as he meets the criteria (i.e. beats level 5) accept your friend's invite before GAMER 1 loses all his frogs (join GAMER 2's game while GAMER 1's game is still going)

Since you have now switched from the left hand screen to the right hand screen (because you are no longer hosting) the game thinks that YOU completed the achievments which GAMER 1 did.

Hint - Deus Ex Generalities
Some general hints for N3 players!

(1) The maximum level of a character is nine. More attacks are unlocked at higher levels, and more potent weapons (if acquired) may be equipped.

(2) Replaying a mission will slowly increase the potency of items (extrapolation from game manual).

(3) Items however, are partly randomized in chests and always randomized from dead enemies.

(4) Save slots track campaign progress and character development. Reserve one slot for each character!

(5) When you acquire a weapon or item, don't forget to equip it (Status Menu). Equipped items are organized by power level (Clover 2 will precede Life Globe 1 for example).

(6) Blocking is universal (and non-chipping). Block often against bosses or don't expect to survive.

(7) Orb Spark (blue) is very rare. If you have to forego an Orb Attack (red) to get more blue orbs or just to save up the Orb Spark for a boss or big conglomeration of enemies, do so.

(8) Troops are expendable. Use them or lose them.

(9) Allied officers are invulnerable. Use them to lure bosses while you attack .... from the back.

(10) Inphyy's final stage is impossible without some serious devotion. First, she needs her level 9 attack move. She also needs to achieve several S ranks across her stages -- this is because there's an item that lets Inphyy do red meter draining moves without draining the red meter. You will need that to defeat the ultimate enemy!
Hint - Curse Yourself And Be Stronger
Obtaining higher combos will unlock more powerful weapons. I was able to unlock the aegis charm 4 which raises your defense up by 80%. I was also about to obtain the Royal Flag (50% range attack & 20% Attack Power) and Royal Crown (Critical 50%).

The trick is to use those cursed items to weaken your character so you dont kill everyone in one hit. Each character has a level where you can rack up a huge combo. I got those items for Imphyy when I first reach a 9800 combo!

Tutorial Weapon
When you play the tutorial stage, check every treasure chest in sight for a Prominence weapon. Although you need to increase Inphyy's level to equip it, this is the only method to unlock this sword before committing to Inphyy's campaign.

Hint - King of Nights
Beating the final boss of N3 is much easier (and do-able) by doing the following:

1. Increase Inphyy's level to nine for her final attack.

2. Attain the accessory "Deadly Armband" as a randomly dropped item from various Army of the Night enemies.

3. A strong weapon. The Klausorus is an award for S rank in Inphyy's Eauvarria Mountain Pursuit.

4. Do Inphyy's final aattack move (GREEN, GREEN, YELLOW) on the boss when it is distracted and dash to evade all retaliatory attacks.

5. As a safety net, consider equipping the accessory "Demon Gloves" if necessary.

Enchanted Arms Cheats

Hint: Unlimited Chips & SP
At London city, go to the casino (slum area). Use a save and load method, and play roulette by betting 1000 chips for the first 9-12 numbers which you can earn around 24000-26000 chips if you win. The chances is roughly 1/3 to 1/4. Quit casino and save after you win. Naturally, if you lose, reload your last save. Repeat that and you can earn unlimited casino chips.

After you obtained all the goodies in the casino presents, you can sell that item in casino which recovers 50% of your HP and EP at the shop next door. You can only carry 9 on you at a time. So you will have to buy them from casino using chips and sell them at the shop. You can get 5400 TB for 9 of them. Repeat the step above and you can have unlimited money and unlimited SP because SP can be purchased at the shop.

Hint - Omega Tactics
Omega is the final boss in the holy beast shrine At first it seems impossible to kill Omega with him having 99999 hp and ep but he is rather easy to defeat with a golem that has a special attack that takes a % of damage. I used Sebastian sniper shot. The first few shots with him did about 35000+ damage. Other golems you can use is Raiko or Samurai. Lastly, keep your members out of his God Scream ability if possible.

For all unlockables, you need to earn an ending. If Frank dies, you fail to earn a required ending, or you choose to start a new game after meeting the requirements, you do not unlock the reward.

Ammo Belt (costume) ... Do not miss with a machinegun. If you miss, start with a new (150 round) machinegun.

Arthur's Boxers (costume) ... Survive for at least 7 days in Infinity Mode.

Hockey Mask (costume) ... Photograph all PP Stickers.

Real Laser Sword (weapon) ... Survive for at least 5 days in Infinity Mode.

Real Mega Buster ... Defeat at least 53,594 zombies in one session.

Special Forces Boots ... Defeat at least 15 psychopaths (or 10 special forces soldiers).

Hint: Katana
As soon as you begin the demo take the first staircase to your right and walk up.

At the second store/shop on your left (it is a resturant/food court) enter the shop and jump behind the counter and walk to the juice section (you'll see it, mmmmm O.J.) after you replentish your health,walk to the right of the juice section and jump off-trust me.

You will land on an orange canopy and yeehaw you'll find the Katana that will slice and dice the hoards of zombies in your path. All though the katana does not last long, it is freakin sweet watching the zombies be cut into bloody pieces!

Note katanas are also infinite from stalls N116 and E205.

Hint: Bester Fester Beginning
Replay the first few portions of the game first -- save the couple and photograph them hugging for moola points. Kill a few zombies and then die around the parking lot area. When you "save and exit to title", you keep your character's development (and PP values) for the next attempt at the game. You can power up significantly to muscle through the later areas of the game!

Hint: Samurai Onechambara Zombie Action!
Screw the firearms. This is not Resident Evil! Stick with the samurai sword if you want to whack bosses. Deliver a few hits and your bullets can be saved for times when you need to attack at range to get to vital food and health items. Note that this becomes valid only with some bosses (not all).

Hint - Carlito Tactics
In order to beat Carlito, there are two ways I have discovered. Either go into the battle with two pistols, one of which is given to you by Brad and another you can find from a cop, or go into the battle with the sledgehammer or katana. Method one involves running through the Welcome sign and running toward the ice cream parlour, then turn 180 degrees and stand behind the boxes before you go into the seating section. There you can shoot Carlito but he can't hit you. Eventually he will run on top of the food places and you must turn and hide behind the boxes, strafing and shooting him.

Method 2 is to follow the beginning portion of one, except when you get to the boxes, run past them and climb ontop of the boxes that allow you to jump up to where Carlito is. Equip the sledgehammer or katana, then jump up when carlito is shooting at Brad or when he's reloading. Then just smash him, you'll take damage, but his flurry takes down one bar of health, so you should beat him and kill him with one bar of health left.

Hint - Jeep Inmates Tactics
Head to the North Mall across the park. Inside hunt around the shops that are under construction for the nail guns. You shouldn't need more than two. Go back out to the park the way you came in and the cutscene will play. Head to the trees near the Food Court and wait for the jeep to try and make a go for you.

If you stay in the tree area, the jeep should smack repeatedly into the trees, freeing up a major opportunity to nail gun the inmate on the machine gun from a safe distance.

Once he is down, nail gun the passenger, then finally the driver. Once all three are dead you can go examine the .50 Cal machine gun and dismount it. It holds about 200 rds and is extremely powerful (I used it to kill Carlito in one small burst). It is also extremely acurate (you can lightly squeeze the trigger quickly for single shot). One of the best weapons in the game!

Hint - Park Inmate Slaughter
Nine times out of ten when your escorting any survivors through the court yard you will have to deal with the extremely annoying and deadly inmates sporting around in there little jeep. Fortunately they are a little rusty on their driving skills and tend to run into walls.But that doesnt stop the inmate with the mount machine gun from unloading on you and your party of survivors.

The easiest way to defeat them is to go to the La Frescna Plaza and grab the Sub Machine Gun hidden in the Fountain. When you step out into the court yard immediately direct your party to run to the corner immediately to your right. then run left. wait for the jeep to run into the wall(because they will try to run you over) And concentrate all of your fire on the inmate firing the machine gun. It should take about 50 rounds and he's dead.

By now the jeep should already be backing up to make another go at you. dodgethe jeep just barely and right when the red "B" icon apears, quickly examine th e machine gun on the back. Now manually aim(with the large machine gun) and make short work of the other two inmates.

Hint - Uzi Locations
There are some reliably constant sources of Uzi's in the game (note -- unless you are doing Case 1.1, thses Uzis do not appear if you have one in stock already):

(1) The fountain in Al Fresca Plaza. Note, having an Uzi in stock will prevent this item from spawning when the Al Fresca map is loaded. It's best to complete the Case files until this area of the map is opened easily (assist Brad, fight Carlito #1 on day one).

(2) In Paradise Plaza, head up the stairs to level two (the stairs next to P113 Kids Choice Clothing). On the landing mid-way up the stairs, jump and mantle onto the blue store marquee. Follow the wall until you are over P116 (Shoe Kings). The Uzi's placement should be obvious.

(3) In the Food Court, locate F103 (Chris' Fine Foods). There is a signboard that has a cook's cariticature. Mantle onto the dining booth sidings, then mantle again onto the cariticature signboard. The Uzi should be on the top.

(4) The maintenance tunnel warehouse. This is the same room as the maintenance tunnel key. On the map, this room is underneath Leisure Park, and may be considered "just south east" of stall W107.

(5) In Wonderland Plaza in the play area by the maintenance tunnel entrance, you need to zombie ride to the toy playhouse. The uzi is on the house's roof.

(6) In the leisure park, goto the entrance of the parking lot, turn right & go to the corner there should be a tree with a rock under it, the Uzi is up in the tree.

(7) In Entrance Plaza, go near the escalators. You will need to use the Zombie Ride to reach it.

Hint - Drop No Damage
At level 25 (or so), Frank earns the knee drop (JUMP then JOYDOWN + BLUE). This move is useful in beating down enemies regardless if they are standing or lying down, but you can also do this move to avoid falling damage from heights.
Hint - Clown O'Path
The best way to beat that evil clown boss near the roller coaster is as follows:

1) Go get about 4 pistols from the fat zombie guards in that area of the mall. A container of OJ is good to have as well.

2) When the fight starts, run back down the stairs to the upper level and KEEP YOUR DISTANCE from him. He will start to blow up balloons of gas when you're far away.

3) Shoot him as he is blowing one up. The clown will drop the balloon. Shoot it while it's near him. He'll start coughing. Shoot away.

4) Repeat until he's dead. Watch out for zombies while you're fighting him, and NEVER try to melee him. After beating this boss, he'll leave a small chainsaw behind after he's dead. Pick it up before you switch off the coaster, because after the cutscene you'll find another at his body!

5) Final note, the hostage you save should be saved if you want to get the best ending. This hostage unlocks a "warp" between the Wonderland and Paradise bathrooms, letting you quickly move from one side of the mall to the next.

Hint: Frank Would Like To Eat Your Face
Frying pans are not used for cooking. Rather, you simply equip one and use it on a stove action point. Once the pan is visibly red, Frank can use a strong attack with the heated frying pan (hold BLUE) and melt the face off a zombie for a bonus 100 PP.

Hint - .50 Cal Respawn
Unverified. Ok, after you beat the three convicts in the jeep, you can re-spawn the jeep's gun by driving to another map (the maintenance tunnel map). When you load a new map, you reset the gun. However, you do not reset the damage done to the jeep, so dont hit too many zombies. You can have fun with the gun by driving back and fourth between the parking lot and the tunnels for Zombie Genocider.

Hint - Easy 100% Machinegun Accuracy
Unverified. Very simple. Get a special forces machine gun, then go to the Butcher's room (meat processing under Seon's grocery) and unload 150 shots on one piece of hanging meat. You will get Perfect Gunner unlocked!

If you've got a machinegun when you're doing the Bomb Run, you can easily attain the Perfect Gunner achievement by unloading the weapon into Carlito's delivery van.

Park your vehicle (I used the van) right next to one of the bomb vans and you'll be somewhat out of Carlito's line of fire when he's throwing grenades. Stand between your van and the bomb van and you should be able to get off the entire magazine with no problems.

You can also get a machinegun early through a survivor. Trade any weapon for Brett's machinegun when rescuing the survivors from the Huntin' Shack. If you manage to hang on to it until you can do either of the above exploits, you get the achievement.

Hint - Toy-Chainsaw ... Times 27
The clown's mini-chainsaw supposedly exists in three categories of items -- blades, construction, and toy. Luckily, there are three books that triple toughness of those item classes. Taken together, the small chainsaw becomes a very tough weapon (almost unbreakable). The books you want are in P101 (toy magazine), P108 (engineering book), and W204 (criminology book). Although you need to have four slots to make this weapon work, Frank will have a nearly unbreakable melee weapon for any mode.

Hint - Food Court Carlito
I found a simple and easy tactic to stop Carlito's reign of fire on the Food Court in the Case 'Backup for Brad'. First get a Stun Gun ready! Get behind the Wild West set up where Carlito is covering. Climb up the boxes to his level and take cover behind the corner of the fake building where he stands. He will relise your location quikly so have the stun gun ready. As he rounds the corner to shoot get him with the stun gun! This will stop him and deplete his health completly without a strong resistance!

Occasionally, a stun gun is created from destroying cardboard boxes. You can destroy them if you have the roundhouse (and sweep) kick, or the knee drop (level 25).

Hint - Grocery Clerk
Obtain a sword (not a katana) from the Cutlery Store (it's next to grocery store). You need to break the glass to access the action point. When the grocery psychopath comes at you with the cart, jump up on top of a shelf. Jump and press BLUE as you fly through the air. Because Frank is using the sword and not the katana, he will do a downward thrust with the sword instead of a kick. Swing a couple more times and jump back up. Repeat as needed and the boss will be dead in no time.

Hint - Easy PP Task (Hangers)
For some quick and easy PP early on, find any of the circular clothes racks in the mall (there is one in the Shooting Star Sporting Goods on the second floor in Entrance Plaza -- stall E207). Take any weapon (i.e., a hockey stick) and nick the side of the clothes rack to send it spinning, then hit it the other way. Both clockwise and counterclockwise yield some quick and easy PPs!

Hint - Easy Karate Achievement
Go to the maintenance tunnels and make sure you have the Double Lariat skill (L3 + BLUE while Frank is motionless). Go into any big group of zombies and use this skill. The best place to do this is the area where Carlito's (usable) white truck is (it's the northwest corner of the tunnel area). Once you kill all the zombies in that area go into the butcher room and go back out and all the zombies will be back. It will take about then (real time) minutes to get the achievement. If you run low on life, you can always use the white van to head to an exit and come back later.

Hint - PP Exploit (Special Forces In Warehouse)
If you are back at your base early waiting for the helicopter there's a nice easy way to level up. Make sure to have some guns with you, make your way up to the top of the warehouse and you can shoot down all the federal agents patrolling below without them shooting you. Each guy is worth 5000 PP. Whenever you run out of ammo (or guys to shoot), just jump down and grab some of the machine guns they leave behind, take the elevator back up and do it again to a fresh batch of unsuspecting AI.

Hint - Ending Requirements
These are the requirments needed in 72 hour mode to unlock different endings. The farther down the alphabet an ending is, the worst ending you have (i.e., 'F' would be the worst and 'A' would be the best).

Ending A ... Solve all cases. Talk to Isabella at 10 AM and return to the heliport at 12 noon on Sept. 22nd.

Ending B ... Don't solve all cases but be at the heliport on time.

Ending C ... Solve all cases but do not talk to Isabella at 10 AM on the last day.

Ending D ... Remain a prisoner of the Special Forces by 12 noon on Sept. 22nd.

Ending E ... Don't be at the heliport and don't solve all cases.

Ending F ... Do not collect all of Carlito's bombs during case 7-2. You do have to successfully complete all the cases up to this point.

Hint - Chopper Smashing
Having trouble taking aim at the chopper while zombies are constantly harrassing you? Try doing the Zombie Ride to jump on top of the shelter in the park. That way, the zombies can't bite you. When you are up there, there is also some glitch where the helicopter is unable to shoot you very well. I think it's because the chopper aims at Frank as if he was standing on the ground.

I was only shot maybe twice while on top of the shelter. Take your machinegun or the Real Mega Buster and aim toward the helicopter when it is about to come straight at you. Once it starts its approach, turn around 180 degrees, aim straight up toward the sky and start shooting your weapon. You should be able to hit the rotor within a couple tries. You really only need to land one good shot, so if you use this technique, all you have to do is line your shots up right and you will hit the chopper as it passes over you. Just aim straight for the center when it starts coming towards you, then quickly turn around 180 degrees, (hold down to turn around completely) then aim for the sky and start shooting.

Forget to destroy the military helicopter and now all the zombies are dead (Day 3)? There is still a way to get on the shelter without using the Zombie Walk! Go to the parking lot located far west on your Mall Map. Get in the red car and drive to the shelter.

Once the car is near the shelter, a glitch will happen where if you position Frank under the edge of the shelter roof and jump, he will grab on to the ledge and pull himself up. It has worked every time I've tried.

I was shot about five times on top, but it was worth it because the helicopter misses most of the time. Everything else about destroying the helicopter is pretty much covered in the hint above this one, and it works very well.

Hint - Shocking For Dollars
Provided you have a high enough damage level (say 15 to 20), you can use stun guns to immobilize the grocery psycho. When he gets over to you, pop-out without getting close to the cart and just hold the Stun Gun on him for maybe no more than 5 or 6 seconds. The boss will be dead or darn close to it.

Unlockable Mega Buster
Unlike other useless achievements, The Zombie Genocider achievement (kill 53'594 zombies) unlocks Rockman's Mega Buster in the security office. Once this achievement is accomplised, let your current mode run down (72 Hour Mode is best). Once the credits roll, the unlockable will appear and you can save it to your gamertag profile. Frank can stock the weapon, but can only carry one at a time.

Hint - Gunshop Follies
I have noticed that sometimes when you enter a gun shop from the back, the people drop the gun's they are holding and leave. Leaving the guns on the ground. I found this works best when there are 2 or more people in the shop. Another way is to go into a store and kill the people with soemthing else, take the guns and run off the cops if needed.

Hint - Zip Guns For Free
If you enter Rim Job's in the starting area, make the shop keeper set off the alarm by firing your gun. The police will come to take you away but the uniforms apparently can't enter the garage.

This is great (unless it is patched). You can hide on the corners and pick off the police as much as you like and they can't touch you. The only time you are in danger will be if you're in the open. Once your health gets low, just duck back behind the corner and heal up.

This is a cheap and easy way to get weapons and ammo for free. After killing a few cops, wait for a break in the action and then dash out and scoop up the weapons and cash they've left behind. I managed to max out on pistol rounds, shotgun shells and SWAT rifle ammo in almost no time at all. Once you've had enough you can run into the office and wait out your wanted timer until the cops leave. How's that for street smarts?

Hint - Insurance Fraud Payout
You have to fall into or Under moving cars, not just fall to the ground unless you only want a few hundred dollars.

One of the key things to look for after the first few levels is the freeway. The UI leads you close to an overpass on a lot of the 100k levels.

Jump off the overpass and run at a car or truck. As soon as you are about to make contact, dive. If you do it right, it will not look like you dove at all and you will rake up 30K each try.

Also on some of the street ones, I park my car to block one land to force the traffic into the center. Here you can run straight at a car and dive directly into it. I got huge points even diving into cars not going fast.

Also, you can get a police car before starting the Insurance Fraud activity. Having a civic vehicle involved in the accident is an automatic multiplier, and it's very durable and goes pretty fast, so it's not too tough to launch through the windshield as you hit on-coming traffic. With witnesses and hitting another on-coming car as you fly out giving you air bonuses and distance bonuses, it's possible to clear level 8 with just one hit.

There are several multipliers that when stacked correctly can add up to HUGE point payouts, allowing you to easily dispatch the Insurance Fraud 'extra' in no time at all.

The multipliers are as follows -- Vehicle, Witness, Hang Time, Vehicle Eject, Civil Vehicle and Distance.

Using the following method I scored 134,200.00 in one accident. The key is the civil vehicle multiplier. Steal a police car, build as much speed as possible and ram head on into traffic (for huge numbers you must be ejected from the windshield). For every other vehicle your body hits after going through the windshield the vehicle modifier doubles.

So if you were to ram head on into another vehicle and are ejected you will receive both the 'vehicle' and 'eject' mods, if your body hits another vehicle you gain another 'vehicle' mod. Every combo of a particular multiplier doubles the mod.

For the situation above you would receive a a x2 vehicle mod, another x4 vehicle mod, a x5 vehicle eject mod PLUS any 'witness', 'hang time', 'distance' and the all important 'Civil Vehicle' mod.

I had no witnesses and only hit one other car on my way through the windshield and I scored 134,200 points on my first try! Addendum by Hewhoisiam06422
Hint - Hitman Target Selection
Unverified. You don't have to spend hours driving around looking for a specific person. All you have to do is find an NPC that looks like a target from your list anywhere in the city (For example, a person in a hotdog suit).

Your chances of finding a character of that type are increased if they are not selected in your HUD. Once you find a qualifying individual, open your activities window and make them the active target, then kill them in the specified manner.

You'll still have to draw the police guys out by getting law enforcement attention.

Hint - Making Armed Robbery Work For You
To get a bit more money from hold-ups in the various shops located around the city, make sure to hit up the cash registers on your way out. And if you do it MY way, you'l get away with no police attention.

Get the money from the safe and kill the clerk. Make sure that you kill them with melee weapons and not by shooting them or there's a good chance you'll set the alarm off. If there's anyone else in the store (I've only done this with 1 patron, not 2), do them the same way. Beat the snot out of them to make sure they can't set off the alarm and then take one of your guns and shoot the registers. At least ONE of them will always drop some bills and change.

If you're going to do this, make sure you don't have a homie with you that may pull out their gun and start shooting. Once they fire their weapon, the police will be notified.

Unlockable - Zombie Lin Homie
After the leader of the Westside Rollerz missions dies, you can have her come back as a zombie. Be sure to have a Reaper vehicle in the garage. Call Eye for an Eye (5555966) and you add her as a party member. She drives a hearse, beats people with her own arm, and sometimes eat a dead body also.

Hint - Money And How To Farm It
Find an armored car, take it to one of your cribs and store it. Go to the nearest Friendly Fire and buy a crap load of pipe bombs, head back and take the armored car out (and blow it up). Usually a few thousand bucks will come out. However, since you stored the truck in your garage, you can just keep buying it back for 500 bucks and the money will be there every time. This is a good way to get the penny pincher achievement and hoard some cash on the side.

After the armored car explodes and it drops the money(Armored Car is inside your garage on fire), you sprint out to the garage selection screen quickly choose the Armor car repair selection repair it before the garage door closes.

The car will be bugged and will explode upon getting hit once (Spawns with no health). So you can easily destroy every car every 3 seconds for a quick-earn money. It's to prevent you from getting 12 ammo of shotgun shells everytime you try and explode an Armored Car.

Easter Egg - Street Soccer
This is a fun and easy easter egg. First you have to be able to find the rollers mantion. (Uncle Will's) Its located West and if you have unlocked this as your crib it should be even more easy.
Go to the mantion then go to the back with the garage or you can just try to find a easy was on the roof. then get to the top wher you see a chiminy. get in the chiminy and ther is a soccer ball waiting for you. you can have fun just by kicking it around!

Hint - Easy Safe Packages
Unverifed. If you go to a store before it closes you'll notice that when you walk in, the door is left open. Stay in the store for a while and look around buy what you want. Leave the building through the door you came through but don't walk so far away that the door is out of view. Head back to the door and there should be a boot print on one door and the other door should still be open. The store clerk will be gone. When you hit the safe there should be no alarm and no cops. You're good to go. Pack up your vehicle and head to the pawn shop.

Hint - Car Warp
Instead of wasting time going in a car through the door, all need to do is hop on top of the car and press YELLOW you will be instantly teleported into the driver's seat. This really helps when stuck in a shoot out and you need to leave quickly.

Glitch - City Sights, City Lights
This glitch can be used in single player.This will allow you to get on tall buildings. This glitch wont really help you but its a fun glitch to do. Find a police car. Then find a large building with a flat wall(may be hard to find one but there are some).

Manage to get the police car side ways on the wall. You can usually do this by ramming the wall with the side of your car. Once you do this, drive forward and up. You will begin to climb the wall. Once you reach the top edge of the building, the car will lean forward. When it does then get out -- sometimes the car will not make it up with you. Now you will be at the top of the building, and if it is tall enough you can view thw whole city all around. Enjoy!

Hint - Achievement Ease
Unverified. To achieve achievements do the following:

Select every single team in Franchise mode and just simply sim everything. Throughout the entire season anyone who breaks "GAME" and "SEASON" record achievements will count for you they get unlocked.

Also, if you sim seasons your overall madden level will go up anywhere to 2 - 3 levels a season. Once the Superbowl and Pro Bowl are done just exit and go to "Play Now" Select no for save and then restart. You can easily get to Madden level 40 in about two hours and unlock almost every achievement. This also works for your SuperStar character.

Hint - Free Training Points (Defensive Players)
You can automatically get max 7 training points before each game in franchise mode, on an Xbox 360. It seems to only work for defensive players and I'm not sure why.

Pick 3 defensive players to train and choose Bench Press ALL-MADDEN for all 3 regardless of position and ability. As soon as you see the first guy on the bench, push START and choose QUIT. The game will ask you are you sure, you'll lose progress so say YES.

When the game exits to the next screen, all 3 guys will have 7 free points to add. It may be patched down the road, so use it or lose it!

Hint - Median Exploitation
If you have 2 long roads beside each other, with a thin grass median in between the roads, you can use the instant challenges, and the computer player will follow the road, while you can just drive over the grass and finish in about 10 seconds.

Hint - N00Bs Starting Cash
The easiest way to make money early in the game are the "Delivery Missions". Most of the early ones start out at $80,000. And if you can deliver the car in perfect condition you get a big bonus. Plus there is no time limit on these missions so you can take as long as you want to get from point A to point B. I made enough money from 6 - 8 delivery missions to buy a second house and 4 more cars and I still have around $200,000 to play with.

The added benefit to these missions is to force you to drive more and learn the various qualities of each road and track on the island. Experience with the game is no substitute for a huge bank balance!

Hint - N00b Cash #2
There is a challenge at the South East corner of the island, which requires you to top 140 miles per hour on a winding road.

When the challenge starts, simply spin the car round (after making sure you pass the start line), and head to the road behind you. There's no finish line, so by turning left or right you're on a nice straight road where you can hit 140 in about 10 to 15 seconds, then just hit the A button to finish.

You make $10k for doing this, in less than 30 seconds, then can simply repeat to make some quick easy cash!

Hint - Key Location Detection
Even if you didn't unlock things yet, you can zoom into the map as far as it will go and look for black squares. Places such as clothing shops, vehicle showfloors, and many other places show up as a black square. Just set your marker and go check it out!

Hint - Who Wants To Exploit A Millionaire?
When you reach Expert level a new timed race will show up called "The Millionaires Challenge" which is a $1,000,000 race... The best way to win this race is to buy a MV Agusta motorcycle, and upgrade it to level 3. Then you can race the race with only a type "A" car, or motorcycle. You can do the race as many times that you wish. I earn about $30,000,000 a day on there, and now have around $150,000,000 and 12 houses with 56 cars. It is a 60 minute race and I finish it in about 49 minutes... So have fun making a lot of money!

Hint - N00B Cash #3
In the bottom right hand section of the island is a race called "170mph in heavy traffic". You can do this race over and over and get $15,000 every time.

When you become a champion, there is another race called "180mph in heavy traffic" in the middle of the map; the reward is $70,000 and again you can do this as many times as you want.

You can artificially increase the merc's skills in range and gadgetry offline (since all you do is run around in a custom SysLink match with no opposition).

To increase your Direct skill, you can put in merc bots and corner them -- sometimes they continuously run out a narrow dorrway you can exploit. By doing the Berserk attack (L3 - or click LEFTJOY) you slowly build the direct stat.

If you and five friends have 20 minutes to kill, set-up a private session and (by gentlemen's agreement -- not 'Vestibule' agreement) berserk and headbutt the spies to their final life before letting them run around stealthily for their stealth increase or just rapidly for athletics skill increase. Overall gain makes everyone happy.

After you complete a level such as a free mission, you notice your rank. If you get an 'S' rank (1000 total points) You get get special Biochemical Items for Item Creations by 'Pete'. You get a different item for every mission. On the Mission were you have to Kill De Ragen you get the Biochemical Item 'DE Ragen'.

Hint - Easy Meseta Making Scheme
This only works for levels 15+! Once you get to level 15, do the "Ruler of the Plains" mission from the Parum flyer base. To get an 'S' you need to kill all monsters and the dragon in under I believe 7 minutes. On the first cave entrance, go to the left and kill the two dragons, this always had me get an 'A' if i didn't. The rest is easy. A hint for the De Ragan slaying, get rising strike to level 11 and push Y right after it finishes to use a special combo.

Attack the dragon in front of its chest by its neck: you will do triple damage hitting his neck, chest and feet. If you get a good sword you can hit up to 1,000 damage per combo. This way, you can kill the De Ragan before it can attack like I did. If you get an 'S', you should receive a De Ragan which is a head decor or a +8 to all Partner Machine stats but also -8 to attack. YOu might also receive other items like technics or discs. You make about 10k meseta from one run. Or if you don't sell the head you get about 5k Meseta because the De Ragan decor is worth 5k to a shop vendor. I personally used it all and just kept doing the mission until I ended up with about 600k. Wasn't too hard took me about an hour of gameplay.

Hint - Partner Machine Levels
Your partner machine can evolve at certain levels. I did some testing and I discovered that the levels are production level 10, 20, and 30. 10 and 20 just do better synthesis, while 30 allows your PM to go into battle. Be careful, the stats which you give to your PM will determine what it looks like, how it fights, and what weapon it uses. I ended up with a mini-tooth-fairy looking little girl with a shotgun. It does a 200, 200, and another 200 on a direct hit on the De Ragan. I recommend buying Carline which does all stats +8 except attack, and normal Photons which do +2 for everything except -2 for armor. If a stat is leveled with now red XP it cannot back level so it can't reduce stats.

Hint - Easy Extra Mode
This is for lower level characters, a keen way to get your guys started. Once you unlock Extra mode, progress through story mode until you get Maya, Kerin's sister.

Save and quit.

Now load Extra mode. Right from the start you will have access to all four of the NPC's in story mode on EXTRA. Party Nav, Maya, and Kerin. Go to the Linear Line platform and do the first quest. When done, SELL EVERYTHING AND DEPOSIT YOUR MESETA. Run the quest again until you hit level 5. This time you should have enough meseta to buy a better weapon, or armor.

Now go to Parim and do the mission that requires lvl 5 or better, and take all but Maya. Run the quest until you're happy with your (mid-range) level (about level 15 to 19).

Hint: Zhang Li Boss Tip
An easy sure-fire way to whack this guy is to take a DEF-12 shotgun and any other weapon that is fairly accurate at long distances (any assault rifle or sniper rifle). Zhang Li will dance around the arena and rain on Jo's pretty young butt with death plasma. Evade the shots using Jo's dodge and when you have a clear shot, feel free to shoot back but only if you are sure of a hit.

Damaging the boss enough prompts a shift in attack pattern, and Zhang will hurl obstacles that are diffult to dodge due to the size involved. Simply go to the far end of the platform when Zhang is lifting the object and run (normally) to the other end when the object is thrown.

Continue the attack on Zhang and this prompts him to jump down to Jo's level and attack with the ViBlade. To counter this, dodge and Zhang will falter, dropping the weapon. Normally, you'd take the sword and hack, but it is better to shoot him full on with a double blast from the DEF-12. Zhang will begin his regeneration sequence once he jump back up. Shoot him with the long range weapon to stop his recovery process and Zhang falls back into the ring. Now take the ViBlade and start the hacking and it should be able to finish him off (or at least do serious damage) before he repeats his pattern.

Hint: HAWK Shield On Vehicle
Jo must have the Hawk weapon unlocked for those vehicle stages. Include it in her kit and head for the vehicle. Stand next to the vehicle and throw the HAWK weapon as far out as possible. Before it returns, board the vehicle and when the HAWK returns to Jo's atavism, pressing RB will activate the ballistic shield while Jo is riding.

Glitch: Friendly Fire Off (Ranked Matches)
When creating a ranked game select deathmatch "dark-ops". When the scenerio is highlighted hold LEFT on the D-Pad while pressing GREEN. Cycle through until Eradication is showing again. Friendly fire should now be off. (Unverified)

Hint - Multi Achievements
Eke out a few gamertag points by setting up a fake multiplayer game (local). The majority of killcount and games achievements can be unlocked with a non-moving training "dummy".

Easter Egg - Jack Dark's Gun
Unverified. Go to the very first level in the game. Play through it as normal until you get in that elevator takes you to the surface. As soon as you get to the end of the elevator ride, You will see Jack Dark (the guy with the magnum). As soon as you see him, free 1 slot in your inventory and get your fists up (up on the d-pad). Go up to him with your fists and press secondary fire (RB) to steal Jack's gun (His gun is no different than a regular magnum except it has a black handle, a black barrel, and 200 ammo instead of 75.).

Glitch - Underwater Exit (Fatal)
Start off Mission 7. This will be much easier if you do it on Agent. As soon as you start off against the Brothers, go down one floor so you're on the left side of the boat. You'll see these columns that you can take cover behind. Go up to the second one and take a gun without a scope, (Magnums, CMP-150s and Uzis work best) and press LEFT-TRIGGER, A, A really fast behind cover.

Soon you will enter the wall, and you then press LEFT-TRIGGER and A and COMBAT ROLL into the wall. This will send you underwater, allowing you to se the Trinity Base from the outside. Underwater. With no air supply. And you don't die.UNLESS you go to far off the rock ledge you fall on, in which case you will fall out of the map to your death.

On Fremont Street (single-player) locate the Kapone casino entrance. While facing the entrance, look to the player's left and there will be a black AXE Men's Body Spray bottle sitting on a planter. Shooting it once will let you see test footage for R6 Vegas.

Hint - Unlock New Gear
After destroying the opposition in single player campaign, don't forget to pick-up each new weapon you come across. While you don't have to keep a weapon and finish a map to unlock it in your customization menu, you do need to hold onto it briefly or your profile will not save it.

Another advantage is once you "claim" the weapon, you can die or restart the mission entirely and use it in the stage you got it from. This way, all the enemies you drop pretty much restock that weapon's ammo and you literally will be carrying a portable ammo dump throughout that stage.

Note: you need to reload your gamertag's last checkpoint each time you boot the game to get your gear back. If you choose to load a stage without loading your last checkpoint, your previously earned weapons will be lost.
Hint - Survival XP Exploit
One player should create a 2 player Survival Match with a 5 Minute interval and 1 private slot. Invite your friend and start the match. Wait until there are only 1 to 2 seconds left in the match and then have one of the players kill the other. The winner will receive 395 - 398 XP and the loser will receive 196 to 199 XP depending on how long was left in the round. Alternate a few times to unlock some early extras.

Hint - Indestructable Weapon
I first discovered this trick while playing in the Asgard simulator (though it will work any where), and, thus far, only works with Colossus. When confronted by a foe without,/i> a usable weapon and one with a usable weapon, take hold of the unarmed foe using BLUE button attacks and while still holding your prey, grab the weapon from the armed foe by pressing BLUE followed by rapidly pressing GREEN.

The enemy who was in your grasp will now be stuck from head to waist in the ground, with their feet kicking in the air (and immune to further interaction). The weapon you now hold cannot be destroyed unless it is stolen from you or you drop it. This really came in handy when trying to max out my outfits and levels in the Asgard simulator. The Loki Troll mace destroys hordes of foes in just one or two swings.

Hint - Massive Trick
Want to get 100000+ Points in one combo? Here's how. You'll need to find an area with two quarter pipes and a bit of an open area, not too uncommon in the game.

First off, get speed by doing spins between the two quarter pipes. Once you have a full metre of focus and lots of speed, go up the quarter pipe and perform the following tricks (doesnt have to be exact, just try);

- Get into focus mode
- Vertical Body Varial (flipping your entire body)
- Kickflip
- 360 Spin
- Kickflip

You should be able to do all of that before you begin falling again, now on your way down begin a "Nail the Trick" (press both sticks in), it doesnt matter what trick you do, but try to get atleast 3 different flips in. Then, even out your board and land.

When you land, do a stance-switch (press the right trigger), doing this lets you continue your combo on the ground. Right after the stance switch get into a manual (obviously, more points for doing a kickflip or other trick into the manual). Now that you're in manual, turn on focus again if it's stopped, and do as many grinds/stance switches/manual conversions as possible.

Finally, roll out of the manual and you'll have racked up a huge point count for that one combo, as long as you kept your manual long (if you can keep the manual going for about a minute, you're set.)

Hint - Final Tornado
The final tornado that threatens Metropolis is easy to figure out after a few tries. First off when it appears, you have to save about 3 or 4 citizens in various places. Do that first.

Then you have to go and put out a couple of building fires. Try using the SUPER DUPER Breath. One blow will snuff the fires. Then Superman will say something corny -- along the lines of, "I have to try one more time". He'll automatically fly into the tornado and here's where the encounter gets simple.

When the tornado turns blue inside, use your heat vision and when the tornado turns red, use your ice breath.

Plug in a second controller and interrupt the season mode fights. Click multiplayer and simply bash n' pin the "cooperative" second player and win the match!

This also works for General Manager mode; the only disadvantage you have would be the challengers, because you can't do what you could in WWE 2006 (use exhibition mode) and instead you have to do them straight from your locker room (Direct Challenge).

For those who are wondering what is in store for you after you beat the first two sets of challengers (Amateur and Legend tiers) the special challenge is that you have to be MICKIE JAMES and defeat THE GREAT KHALI. Good Luck!

Hint - All 3 Season Achievements In One Go
Start a Season mode in any difficulty and play through it like normal. After the Unforgiven PPV, save your game and continue to next week. The credits will then start to roll and you will get an achievement for season completion.

During the credits, return to your Xbox Dashboard by pressing the Guide button and selecting "dashboard". This lets you reset and start the game over after earning your achievement.

Go to season mode and select continue. Before continuing to next week, change the difficulty setting to something else and then select continue week. You will then get another achievement. Proceed to do this one more time for the last seasonal achievement.

Jump Glitch
Equip a weapon and press RED to jump. Immediately upon jumping, change weapons. This will cause the jumping action to be repeated, so you can double jump. In this second jump, if you change weapon again, you will jump another time. You can repeat this as much as you want.

This lets Rico climb any building or gap, provided you start with a forward (not stationary) jump. If you don't manage to do the trick, rico will simply fall. If you do the trick too quickly Rico will either stay still or go horizontal. It is best to alternate between two weapons rather than to cycle along, and to have more than 2 weapons in case you change to unarmed or don't change weapons at all.

This trick allows you to get huge base jumps such as my best, 2129m (twice the achievement record). Very useful technique if you are stuck in the jungle, miles away from any road.

When you have two Tafflies, buy a torch, then direct them to the torch they will start on fire, when you can, put them out with the watering can. They will become Reddhotts. Romance the Reddhotts and sell the kid for an easy $2,100. Keep repeating however many times you want.

Hint - Easy Money
At the General Store, purchase the Chili Seed. You can plant a maximum of ten. Place four in a cluster, twice. Then just plant the other two close to one another.

Next, buy the Red Fertilizer. If the chili seeds are close enough, you can douse four at the same time. So get each group of Chili Seeds three times.

Just let the plants grow out. Each Chili Seed will be worth $400 Chocolate Coins. $4,000 in total.

Hint - Rags To Riches
I have something that may help everyone out a lot at becoming a money god. If you see the beggar don't hurt him, just give him about 1000 coins everytime you see him until he opens up a shop.

Once that happens make sure the lady at the general store is selling orchid seeds in the seed catagory. Buy a bunch of orchid seeds and plant them in the ground. Then go to the beggar's shop and use his secret fertilizer (it's the best in the game) and use it 3 times on each orchid.

In the end it should turn out to be a huge plant which sells for 1800 each (and it grows very fast). I have 300,000 coins and got it all in about 20 to 30min. Make sure that as soon as you plant them you water them then use the fertilizer as the plants are growing.

Hint - Crematorium Profit
First talk to Seedos multiple times to get tons of seeds. Plant and sell them for about 200 choco-coins. This triggers a visit from Taffly. Buy a torch light and ignite the Taffly; immediately use a watering can to douse the fire and the Taffly will turn into a RedHott. RedHotts sell for 2100 choco-coins.

Once you get the Hunter, buy express Taffliess for 600 each and turn them into RedHotts through the immolation method.
Hint - Acid Money
Go to Lottie's shop (a.k.a., 'The Costalot') and buy one Venus Pinata Trap and plant it in the center of your garden.

Since it is a weed you do not need to water it. Once it is fully grown, your pinatas will cluster around the flower and they will knock down the flower heads.

You must quickly collect and sell the flower head -- if you are not quick enough the pinatas will eat the flower. Each flower head sells for 360 chocolate coins. Not only that, but the plant produces multiple flowers making roughly about 15,000 coins for a seed costing you 55 coins. If you manage to repeat this, you're able to gain 100,000 coins in mere a half-hour.

You must be careful about your pointer. It's easy to accidently sell pinatas instead of the flower heads. This in addition to the flower pinata being dangerous as it will spit acid spores at adjacent pinatas and make them sick.

This means you have to constantly manage the Venus Pinata Trap, but once you amassed your fortune, you can go ahead and clear the weed.

You can also do a similar thing with flower heads from Poison Ivy (just strike Seedos instead of making a purchase).

Hint - Easier Master Romancing Achievements
First, make sure you have lots of money, which can be made by using the Chili growing tip.

Next, put Gretchem Fetchem to work by having her find whatever pinata you want expressely. In a half hour you can easily have 7 of a species. I recommend Taffly's, Flutterscotchs, and Sparrowmints first, for evolving reasons.

If you get 7 sparrowmints, you get the master romancing award for them, then make all of them eat a butterscotch flowerhead, they all become candaries, and you get the MR award for them as well.

Same with Tafflys, get 7, get the award, then make them go through the garden torch one by one, and put them out with a water can once they are on fire, this will give you 7 red-hotts, the MR award for them, and they well for 2100 each.

Also, get 7 white flutterscotchs and evolve them to whatever you want. I evolved them to yellow by making them eating butterscotchs.

Another easy method is using the 7 paper pets from the Paper pet lady, check out, go back to the garden, get all the rewards, then sell them all. Do this with every animal she has for easy levels and master romancing awards.

Hint - Evolution Pinatas
There are eight possible evolutions which are:
Twingersnaps (evolves from Syurpent)
Fourheads (evolves from Twingersnap)
Candary (evolves from Spearowmint)
Redhott (evolves from Taffly)
Lackatoad (evolves from Lickatoad)
Zumbug (evolves from Horstacio)
Salamago (evolves from Newtgat)
Juciygoose (evolves from Quackberry)

Hint - Choco-tastic Money Maker
You need to be around level 30 for this one (to buy the items needed), but this should solve most or all of your money woes.

Talk to Seedos a few times and eventually he will throw you the 'Bird of Paradise' seed. After you get this seed, it will be unlocked in Costolot's store for 55 coins.

Simply start a new garden, buy and plant as many of these seeds as you can, make sure to water them, and use Ivor's special mix fertilizer on them thrice. Note that if you do not water the plants, they die.

I suggest using the one pour wonder watering can also available in Ivor's shop. When they grow to maturity sell those suckers for 1400 chocolate coins each. Taking time out gain a 1345 coin profit will pretty much leave you sitting pretty after a few dedicated hours.

You can improve on this technique by doing the following:

1. Buy up to 9 Birds of Paradise seeds from Costolot's (range from 55-80 CC each).

2. Plant them fairly close together in 2 rows so that you can get at least 4 flowers in one dose of fertilizer.

3. Use Ivor Bargain's special mix fertilizer and position your cursor in the middle of a cluster of flowers. This way you'll have to use it 1/4 as much as if they were more spread out. You should only have to use this between 6-7 total times to get all 9 flowers fully catalyzed (ormally about 27 times).

4. As long as you have a good watering can, or Sprinkles then you won't have to worry about them. Go about your business, and come back in approximately 5 minutes to see them fully grown.

5. Now, instead of just selling them outright, take out your shovel and 'tap the flower' using X on your controller. Everytime you tap the flower, a flowerhead and a seed comes out. Each fully catalyzed flower will produce 4 flowerheads + 4 seeds.

Each flowerhead sells for 360 CC, which times 4 is 1440 CC (the amount you'd get if you just sold the whole flower by itself), plus now you have 4 seeds which you can sell for about the same you bought them for.

This time sell all flowerheads and seeds keeping as many seeds as you would like to reproduce, so you won't have to buy them again from Costolot's store.

If you chose to do all 9 flowers, and reproduce 9 seeds each time, then you'll have a net gain of app. 14,400-15,500 CC's every 5 minutes!

These codes are from the PC demo of Lego Star Wars II. fdisk got one for getting all the canisters in the demo, then decided to search the EXE for it and wound up seeing the rest sitting in there also.

Ship Tips
There are several ships you operate in the game, each with a different number of proton torpedoes (or bombs) they can carry. For example, the Y-wing has a capacity of five, while the X-wing has a capacity of three.

Unless you have a good place to get bombs from (the bomb generators or enemies), save your bombs. Note that on co-operative mode, both players may overlap same target, so fire in sequential order.
Class Tips
Like the first game, there're some general classes of characters you know about:

Blaster - Fires ranged attack. Has wire hook to grapple. Default characters include any one with a gun. Customizable from the cantina station. Note the character with the revolver type weapon has the shoot dodge (and rapid fire) ability.

Jedi - Engages lightsaber melee attack. Has force powers. Can double jump. Default characters include Luke (Jedi), Yoda, Vader, and Kenobi. Customizable from the cantina station. Note saber color determines Force alignment for customizable characters, but the Maul head also affects alignment.

Dark Jedi - As Jedi but can affect Dark Side objects. Vader is default. Note saber color determines Force alignment for customizable characters, but the Maul head also affects alignment.

Ghost - As Jedi but enemy does not attack (as per disguise rule).

3PO - Droid 3PO can open 3PO doors and switches. Most useless character of your party, apart from opening doors. Unavailable as custom character.

R2D2 - Droid R2 can open R2D2 doors and switches. Hovers short distances (same as Fett's jetpack). Electric probe can also stun enemies. Unavailable as custom character.

Kid, midget or amputee - Can go through kid-tunnels to reach secret areas. Unlike the old class, this version can fire like the blaster class, but cannot do so when moving or jumping. Default characters are Wicket and the anonymous Ewok. This class is not available from custom mode.

Stormtrooper (Imperial) - Can go use Imperial doors and switches. This is part of the disguise factor. Note not all characters can use the disguise station. Available from the cantina station. Default character is Vader. More available from the shop.

Bounty Hunter - Can go use Bounty Hunter doors and switches, and may create a remote bomb for destroying shiny metal objects for extras. Default character is Leia (Bouush) and more can be found in the shop. This is also a part of the disguise factor. Note not all characters can use the disguise station. Unavailable from the customization mode.
Destroy AT-ATs
The AT-ATs are indestructable until you trip them using the tow cable. Once they are downed, tow a bomb from a bomb dispenser and blow it up. AT-ATs that are downed will revive like a Hammerite Undead from Thief Dark Project if enough time elapses.
Unlockable Super Story Mode
Bagging enough yellow bricks will unlock Super Story Mode, or Time Attack Mode, where you need to finish all six chapters of a story in 60 minutes to earn a yellow brick (part of the total 99).

Hint - Stowage Problem
For the Xbox 360, don't forget to select a storage device and a gamertag before embarking on a New Game. LEGO Star Wars 2 will not notify you about not saving any progress once you start playing without selecting a save data destination.
Hint - Double Score Zone Exploit
Double score zones allow players to gain double the credits from studs. Because of that weird effect, you can exploit it by killing your partner (2 active players only) and taking his money (and vice versa). While you lose a set amount of money, you also gain double that amount because of the double scoring effect.

Hint - Self Destruct Extra
Just thought I'd mention the self destruct isn't a completely useless extra. Though blowing up your droid may seem like a bad idea, it is worth noting you don't lose studs (from the act of self-destruct). This means that you could blow up to prevent losing studs from falling, or you can send your droid, which is usually ignored by enemies, into the middle of a bunch of them, and boom. If you opt for the invulnerability extra, it's kinda pointless entirely, but it's an option open to other players.

Gold Brick Awards
Aside from the Super Story and Bonus arches in the cantina (about 40 bricks), you can unlock LEGO City at 60 bricks and a money generator at 99 bricks.

If you want to buy all the shop crap using the multipliers, do yourself a favour and purchase the Score x2 cheat first, then slowly build up to the "30 million" 10x cheat.

The "30 million" is actually less than you think if you have the score cheats stacked and in effect, so the greatest amount of money you need to actually collect is 3 million (for the Score 4x cheat at 6 million). This is because for each stud you collect, it's multiplied by the score multiplier cheat.

By the time of the score 6x cheat, you will be collecting 24x the amount of money, making the score 8x cheat (at 20 million) cost considerably less (divide total by 24).

Hint - Character & Vehicle Bonuses
The character and vehicle bonuses are all too easy if you know what you're doing. First off, you shouldn't have been spending money on buying any character in the store, since you unlock (for free) one character type (Imperial, Bounty Hunter, Midget Character) when you complete all the stories.

Secondly, you need to save up $900,000 and buy the Power Block Invulnerability. You can unlock that crucial block by locating it in Free Mode in Episode 4 Chapter 5. Once you leave the trash compactor, open the first "locked" door you find (it's a second trash compactor room). Investigate that room for your much needed cheat block.

Now you have the right tools (i.e., invulnerability), you can stick to using a bounty hunter and simply lob Thermal Detonators to blow up masses of enemies as well as the shiny metal objects that leave the $10,000 purple stud in the stages (for vehicle stages, some objects destroyed leave a purple stud). These objects (in character and vehicle stages) regenerate, so you basically "run a loop" blowing up the objects you destroyed and coming back to them later.

Lastly, if you have Jango Fett (PS2, Cube, and Xbox only) or bought Boba Fett, they are a good character to have on Episode 5's character bonus level, since they can simply jet pack over the gaps in Bespin. For the most part, you can jump (once) with any Blaster using character and shoot while moving to kill enemies and pick up studs. For $1 million, the blue studs don't count much (although grab them if they are in a pile), so go for the very rare purple studs extracted from destroyed objects.

Hint - Crushing the Rancor's Little Skull
In the end of Episode 6: Jabba's Palace, you have to beat the Rancor. First, activate the panel on the right or left side. This will cause a Gamorrean Guard to drop out from the enemy producing tubes.

Let the Rancor grab the enemy and it will walk to a corner to eat. Pull the switch next to the rancor and an explosive box (shoot it to blow it) will drop down. This explosive is the only way to damage the rancor.

Drop in another Gamorrean Guard to repeat the process. This time, the rancor will walk to a different corner but a similar switch for the explosive box will be present.

Repeat the Gamorrean Guard drop for a third time and the rancor will walk to the door where it came out from. Use the non-droid characters to pull both switches by the door to defeat the rancor once and for all.

Hint - Santa Jedi
Santa can be unlocked with the following parts:

Step 1: At the Mos Eisley Cantina, enter the following two codes: CL4U5H (for Santa hat and red clothes) and TYH319 (for white beard Extra).

Step 2: Go to the Character Customizer and create the proper costume. Use a human head, the appropriate red clothing and don't forget the red cap! Santa can wield the weapon of your choice -- we recommend the green or red lightsaber to seasonally complement his shiny red duds. (Remember, the color of his lightsaber decides whether his Force powers are naughty or nice.)

Step 3: In the Extras menu, activate Disguise 3.

Step 4: Enter the character-based level of your choice in Free Play.

Step 5: Spread holiday cheer to a galaxy in pieces.

Step 6: Should IGN find your lack of faith in LucasArts disturbing, you will be Force Choked. Your next younger sibling will get your gifts and get promoted to Admiral before Arvel Crynyd smashes into his or her bridge when the shields are down in the next LEGO Star Wars.

Hint - Worm Achievement
There is an achievement that has confounded multiple IGN editors while playing Lost Planet. Since I earned it, I'll save you some headache and explain how you defeat (but cannot kill) the Giant Worm.

The Worm (and you will know him when you meet him) can never be killed (only temporarily defeated). Know that right off the bat. He has big green glowing weak spots that you must shoot. Keep in mind, the Worm has two ends and sometimes shows the head (he charges forward when the head is up) and his ass (when he fires missiles out his bum). You need to do damage on both ends.

The most important thing is to keep running across the snow plains until you are away from the small flying creatures. Once you are away from them, it is just you and the worm. Aside from doing damage and being annoying, the littly flying bastards often get in the way of rocket launcher attacks. So get clear from them and then fight the Worm.

There is no special animation when the worm is beaten. The only way you will know is that the music stops. You don't even have to have all his weak points destroyed to "defeat" him. However, in about two minutes, he returns completely healed. If the music has stopped, you have defeated the worm and you can stop fighting him.

When you defeat him you will not see an Achievement Unlock. Instead, you must complete the mission to get the achievement. This is why many at IGN spent significant time trying to defeat this beast again and again, not realizing the reward was already netted.

Hint - Final Boss
In the final boss fight, your actions are as follows:

# YELLOW button moves your Vital Suit upwards
# GREEN button moves your Vital Suit downwards
# BLUE button fires pulse lasers
# LEFT TRGR fires lasers or does a large sideways cut if you hold it
# RIGHT TRGR does a saber stab or does a vertical cut if you hold it

The final bosses weaknesses are the large cutting attacks activated by your TRIGGERs. Just get in close to him and keep cutting him unitl he dies and be sure not to get caught in his purple laser attack. Don't bother using the pulse lasers since they don't do anything to the boss except to destroy the missiles fired at Wayne. Personally I think the best cutting attack to use is the sideways cut as you rarely miss him. The vertical cut can miss if the boss moves sideways.

So you wanna reach L50 on ranked matches and get that achievement out of the way? Set up a private invite with a friend and make a ranked team elimination or elimination match game.

Meet up in the specified session and start the match with two people. Now go around the level takeing over data pods without killing each other. Shuttling back and forth stealing data pods gives you points (since having them taken from you doesn't cost you anything, unlike dying).

If you do this at level 1, you're likely to gain around 15 levels in a game set for 10,000 points.

Hint: Quick Reload
When reloading your weapon, watch the upper-right corner of the screen for a meter that counts down. Press the reload button a second time when the meter's moving bar matches up with the stationary bar. This will give you a super fast reload and put you back in the fight quicker than normal. However, if you mis-time the second button press your reload will take longer than normal.
Hint: Avoiding the Kryll
In the second chapter of the game, you'll be swarmed by enemy kryll if you so much as set foot in the dark. To avoid being attacked, stay in the light at all times. When there's no light in sight, look for propane canisters you can blow up to create some flames that'll scare off the kryll.
Hint: Regain Health
Unlike most games, you can regain all of your health in Gears of War without the need for health packs. Simple stay in cover for a few seconds and watch as the bright-red gear in the center of the screen fades away. When the gear has comlpetely disappears, your health will be completely full.
Hint: Fighting the Wretches
When fighting wretches--the small, shrieking enemies that don't use weapons--attack with melee strikes. The best melee strikes come from weapons other than your grenades and Lancer chainsaw rifle. The chainsaw attack is too slow to combat the swarming wretches, so stick to quick-hit melee punches for instant kills.
Hint: Finding Cog Tags
There are thirty hidden Cog Tags scattered throughout the game. They're small and sometimes hard to find, but there's a a mark you can look out for that'll make finding the Cog Tags easier. Look for large, red Gear logos pasted on the walls--if you find a room with this large Gear logo, examine the room and you're sure to find a Cog Tag somewhere.
Hint - Berserker Beat Down (Then Beat Yourself Down)
To defeat the Beserker at the end of act one, simply dive to the side when she charges at you. Run through the doorway to your right and continue to the door at the end of the room and face your back to it. Get the Berserkers attention by shooting at her or revving the chainsaw then, dive away at the last moment when she charges causing her to break the door down for you.

Continue this to get through the next two doors. When you finally lure her into the courtyard simply use the Hammer of Dawn twice to take her down. If Dom is killed the mission is over, so revive him if he's knocked down.

The second one in Act 4 is defeated similarly. Defeating the second berserker. There are six stone supports for the second part of the greenhouse. Lead the berserker through the six supports, you will see glass dropping from the ceiling. Once all six supports have been taken out, two shots with the Hammer of Dawn will crisp her.

Hint - How To Defeat General Raam
In order to defeat Raam, you need to have grenades and a sniper rifle which is supplied in the center of the room before entering the boss arena.

After entering the arena, stay behind the wall you ended the cut scene with. This is important because you need to maintain your distance from Raam. Also, it helps to command Don to "cease fire." This will make him run back towards you keeping him alive longer to distract Raam.

The trick is to get Raam's swarm away from his body. In order to do this, you need to throw a grenade at Raam. If successful, the swarm will disperse giving you clear head shots using the sniper rifle. Repeat until he’s defeated.

If you run out of grenades or simply cannot aim them, just stay in the lighted areas of floor to avoid the Kryll swarm.

If you don't defeat Raam by the time he reaches your wall cover, move in the opposite direction he does and shoot when the swarm disperses. You will take damage from Raam’s machine gun, but you stay in the light which prevents the swarm from killing you.

Hint - Corpser Corpse
When you are pitted against the Corpser in the Act 3 mines, there's a quick way to win. The Lancer's (chainsaw rifle) constant stream of fire makes it the weapon of choice here. Shoot at the belly of the Corpser, working any angle you can between its legs.

If you hit the belly a few times, it will lift it's front legs and expose it's face. Immediately fire up at it's face and chin. It will shriek and move back.

Hurry, move up grab ammo and repeat. If you don't move fast enough wretches will arrive in waves and make things ten times harder. You must hit the Corpser's face three times.

You'll back it up onto a platform with two destructable joints. They're lit up and on the ground. Shoot them both and the Corpser will plunge into the Imulsion liquid. If you're quick enough you can kill the corpser before any wretches arrive.

Hint - Wretched Fun
Wretches are most annoying since they swarm your soldier and kill him almost instantly on medium and hard. The best method to deal with them is with a shotgun or the alien repeater, since those weapons let you slug them without the dangerous downtime of the chainsaw.

The shotgun is the best for the in-close situation, since you can forego the left trigger and hip fire the shotgun quickly to catch the wretches as they hop around. Smacking them if they get close is the only way to counter, short of using A to dodge.

Hint - Advantage Co-Op
The best way to defeat General Raam on Insane is to go with co-op. You have twice the smart firepower allowing one person get the Torque Bow and the other the sniper rifle.

The bow carrying player should have at least ten arrows. The Torque Bow is the only weapon other than the grenades that will hurt the boss seriously when he has his Kryll shield. The explosion of the tips will also send the Kryll flying, allowing your partner to get in a nice head shot with the sniper rifle for a good one-two combo.

Hint - Cluster Kill Achievement
To get the achievement killing three enemies at once ten times, go to the stage Act 3 - Evolution and locate the area of the Imulsion plant where the guy gets killed when he falls through the rotten wood floor.

Take along at least one grenade and simply follow the dead guy down a hole (or any hole, if you step in the wrong spot). Run around the cellar until you think you have enough enemies following (meaning at least three running after you), tag one with a grenade melee attack.

If you die, that's perfect, since you restart right at the checkpoint of that room and do it again. Achievement progress are independent of game progress. If not, reload the checkpoint and do it again.

(1) Beat the game on the Insane difficulty level.

(2) Accrue 10,000 kills in ranked multiplayer matches.

The console sold out completely at release and by the end of 2006 had sold 10.4 million worldwide. The Xbox 360 competes with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii. Its Xbox Live service allows players to compete online as well as download arcade games and additional content such as game trailers, TV shows, music videos, or rented movies.

Development

Known during development as Xenon, Xbox 2, Xbox Next or NextBox, the Xbox 360 was conceived in early 2003.[6] In February of 2003, planning for the Xenon software platform began, and was headed by Microsoft VP J Allard.[6] That month, Microsoft held an event for 400 developers in Bellevue, Washington, to recruit support for the system.[6] Also that month, Peter Moore, former president of Sega of America, joined Microsoft.[7] On August 12, 2003, ATI signed on to produce the graphic processing unit for the new console, a deal which was publicly announced two days later.[8] The following month, IBM signed on to develop the triple-core CPU for the console.[6] Before the launch of the Xbox 360, several alpha development kits were spotted using Apple Power Mac G5 hardware. Games running on these were reported to be using 25-30% of the actual system's power.[9] Microsoft chose to use these systems for their PowerPC architecture, which is similar to that of the Xenon CPU used in the system. On October 24, 2005, Microsoft shut down Xbox Live for a day to upgrade it for the Xbox 360.[10]

Launch

The promotional campaign for Xbox 360 began on March 14, 2005, with the opening of an alternate reality game called OurColony. Throughout March and April it offered challenges to its community, rewarding solutions with cropped pictures of the console and game screenshots. The end of OurColony came on May 12, 2005, with the release of a video where J Allard of Microsoft showed off the Xbox 360 console. The official unveiling of the Xbox 360 occurred the same day on MTV in a program called MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed. In October of 2005, a similar alternate reality game was created, Hex168, to promote the system before launch.

The Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005, in the United States and Canada; December 2, 2005, in Europe and December 10, 2005, in Japan. It was later launched in Mexico, Colombia, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, India, Brazil, Poland, and Czech Republic. Microsoft has additionally announced official launches in: Hungary, Slovakia, [11] and the Philippines.[12] In its first year on the market, the system launched in 36 countries, more countries than any console has launched in a single year.[13] On September 29, 2006, Microsoft announced that they will waive the cost for repairs due to technical problems on all consoles made before January 1, 2006, and refund any fees already paid.[14] Due to its early launch, the Xbox 360 has a one-year lead on both of its competitors, Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii.

Retail configurations

Microsoft's retail strategy involves two different configurations of the Xbox 360: the Xbox 360 SKU, frequently referred to as the Xbox 360 Premium Package and an Xbox 360 Core System SKU. At launch, the Xbox 360 was priced at US$399 and the Core System was priced at US$299. The Core System was not originally available in Japan, but was released on November 2, 2006.[15] In Australia and New Zealand and Mexico[16] a Media Remote was included as a substitution for the Xbox Live headset in the Xbox 360 Package. The same remote was included for a limited time at launch in the premium bundle.[17] The two configurations contain different video cables; the core system comes with composite cables, the premium includes a hybrid composite and component cable with optional optical out. Both configurations include one year warranties, although consoles purchased in Canada and the United States before December 21, 2006 originally had 90 day warranties; later extended to one year.[18]

BusinessWeek magazine compiled a report that estimates the total cost of components in the premium bundle at US$525 at launch,[19] excluding manufacturing costs, meaning that Microsoft initially lost money on every Xbox 360 system sold. The strategy of selling a console at a loss or near-loss is common in the console games industry, as console makers expect to make up the loss through game licensing. Since Microsoft owns the intellectual property rights to the hardware used in the Xbox 360, they can easily switch to new fabrication processes or change suppliers in the future to reduce costs. Thanks to streamlined processes and ample component supplies, a report from iSuppli released on November 16, 2006, estimates the total cost of components in the premium bundle is US$323.30.[20] This flexibility stands in contrast to the situation Microsoft faced with the original Xbox, where manufacturing costs were never reduced below the break-even point.[21] Microsoft is predicting that with the Xbox 360, a greater market share, yearly revenue through their Xbox Live service, and falling hardware costs will eventually make system sales profitable.

Xbox Live

With the launch of the Xbox 360, Microsoft's online gaming service, Xbox Live went through a major upgrade, adding a basic non-subscription service, Silver, to its already established premium subscription-based service, Gold. Xbox Live Silver is free of charge and allows users to create a user profile, join on message boards, access Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade and Marketplace and talk to other members.[23] An Xbox Live Silver account does not generally support multiplayer gaming; however, some games that feature their own subscription service can be played with a Silver account. Xbox Live supports voice communication along with video communication, a feature possible with the Xbox Live Vision.[24]

Xbox Live Gold has the same features as Silver, plus online game playing capabilities. Microsoft has allowed for previous Xbox Live subscribers to maintain their profile information, friends list, and games history when they make the transition to Xbox Live Gold. To transfer an Xbox Live account to the new system, users need to link a Windows Live ID to their gamertag on Xbox.com.[25] When users go to add a Xbox Live enabled profile to their console, they need to provide the console with their passport account information and the last four digits of their credit card number, which is used for verification purposes and billing. An Xbox Live Gold account has an annual cost of US$49.99, CD$59.99, £39.99, or €59.99. As of December 31, 2006, Xbox Live has over 5 million subscribers.[1]

Marketplace

The Xbox Live Marketplace is a virtual market designed for the console that allows Xbox Live users to download purchased or promotional content. The service offers movie and game trailers, game demos, Xbox Live Arcade games, gamer tag images and Xbox 360 Dashboard themes as well as in-game weapons, items, and costumes. These features are available to both silver and gold members on Xbox Live. A hard drive or memory unit is needed to store products purchased from Xbox Live Marketplace.[26] In order to download priced content, users are required to purchase Microsoft Points for use as scrip.[27] Some products are free to download. Users are able to view items available to download on the service through a PC via the Xbox Live Pipeline website.[28] An estimated seventy percent of Xbox Live users download items from Marketplace.[29]

Arcade

Xbox Live Arcade is an online service operated by Microsoft that is used to distribute arcade video games to Xbox and Xbox 360 owners. In addition to classic arcade games, the service offers some new original games as well as games from other consoles, such as the Genesis title, Sonic the Hedgehog or the PlayStation's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The service was first launched on November 3, 2004,[30] and offers games for about US$5 to $15. Items are purchased using Microsoft Points, a scrip used to reduce credit card transaction charges. On November 22, 2005, Xbox Live Arcade was re-launched with the release of the Xbox 360, in which new games and features were offered. The games are generally aimed toward more casual gamers; examples of the more popular titles are Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting, and UNO.[31]

On November 6, 2006, Microsoft announced Xbox Live Video, an exclusive video store accessible through the console. Launched in the United States on November 22, 2006, the first anniversary of the Xbox 360 launch, the service allows users in the United States to download high-definition and standard-definition television shows and movies through Xbox Live onto an Xbox 360 console for viewing. At launch the service offered 800 hours of standard footage, and 200 hours of high definition. With the exception of short clips, content is not currently available for streaming, and must be downloaded. Although Microsoft has partnered with AT&T to add IPTV functionality to the console, giving users the ability to stream 2 simultaneous HD and 2 simultaneous SD channels.[32] Movies are available for rental. They expire in 14 days after download or at the end of the first 24 hours after the movie has begun playing, whichever comes first. Television episodes can be purchased to own, and are transferable to an unlimited number of consoles. Downloaded files use 5.1 surround audio and are encoded using VC-1 for video at 720p, with a bitrate of 6.8 Mbps.[33] Content is offered from MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Turner Broadcasting, CBS for television; and Warner Bros., Paramount for movies along with others.[34]

The console's graphical user interface is the Xbox 360 Dashboard; a tabbed interface that features four "Blades". It can be launched automatically when the console boots up without a disc, or when the disc tray is ejected; or the user may choose to launch a game automatically if a disc is inserted. A simplified version of it can also be accessed at any time via the Xbox Guide button on the gamepad. This simplified version shows the user's gamercard, Xbox Live messages and friends list. It also allows for personal and music settings, in addition to voice or video chats. Much like modern operating systems, the console replaces the dashboard with a Screen of Death if it encounters a serious error.

The Base Kernel Version of the dashboard is 2.0.1888. The first major update, version, 2.0.2857, was released on June 13, 2006.[35] This version gave users the option to resume DVD playback from where it was last stopped as well as the option to boot to either a disc or the dashboard. New slideshow options were added for Photo Viewing, which can save folder layout between sessions. Xbox Live Marketplace was reorganized and users can now have concurrent downloads, allowing multiple downloads as background tasks.

Dashboard version 2.0.4532.0 was released on October 31, 2006.[36] It allows the Xbox 360 to output video at 1080p and installs support for Zune and the external HD DVD drive attachment. WMV files can be streamed from a computer through the use of Windows Media Connect or connected USB device. Windows Media Player 11 was added as a supported streaming program. Xbox Live Arcade can now be set to automatically download trial versions of any newly released titles. Cosmetic changes to the dashboard were also made.

The current dashboard version, 2.0.4548, was released on November 30, 2006.[37] It improves performance on wired headsets when used with a wireless controller and fixes video output issues on VGA connections.

Microsoft XNA

Microsoft XNA is a set of tools and technologies that includes XNA Studio, which provides versions of key production tools such as asset management, defect tracking, project automation and work lists. These tools are designed to work together to automate common development tasks and present interfaces tailored to the different functions within the team. John Carmack stated at QuakeCon 2005 that the Xbox 360 has "the best development environment I've seen on a console".[38] Microsoft XNA also includes other components such as the XNA Framework and XNA Build.

Anyone can develop a game using XNA Game Studio Express, an IDE for homebrew developers, which was initially released in beta form on August 30, 2006. A second, near feature complete beta version was released on November 1, 2006.[39] The final feature complete version, 1.0, was released on December 11, 2006.[40] It targets the XNA Framework only to provide managed content and for a US$99/£65GBP yearly subscription fee users can join a "creators club" which lets them share their content with others. There is also a 4 month subscription to the "creators club" which costs £30GBP.

Backward compatibility

Backward compatibility is achieved through software emulation of the original Xbox. Emulated games offer graphical enhancements because they are rendered in 720p, 1080i, or 1080p HD resolution with anti-aliasing enabled rather than the Xbox standard of 480p;[36] anti-aliasing is also applied when the output resolution is 480p. Some games also benefit from an improvement in the rendered draw distance, possibly due to the system's greater memory bandwidth. However there are also games that do not perform well in emulation; these often exhibit a lower framerate on the Xbox 360.[41], as well as various sound bugs and occasional gameplay glitches. A hard drive and the downloading of an emulation profile is needed in order to play original Xbox games. Updated emulation profiles can be obtained through Xbox Live, by burning a CD with profiles downloaded from Xbox.com, or by ordering an update disc from Microsoft. The full list of backward-compatible games is maintained at Xbox.com. The current U.S. list includes 298 games (about 30% of the total Xbox game library, as of the December 14, 2006, update); fewer titles are backward compatible in European and Japanese markets, with 295 and 71 titles respectively. Microsoft has stated that they intend to release more emulation profiles as they become available, with a goal of making the entire Xbox library playable on the Xbox 360. They have since made multiple statements indicating that this may never be complete, and the rate of updates to the backwards compatibility list is in line with this stated attitude.[42]

Game library

The Xbox 360 launched with a number of games. One such, Call of Duty 2 was the console's best selling game for 2005, selling over a million copies.[43] Only five other games sold this amount in the console's first year in the market; Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter,[44] The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion,[45] Dead or Alive 4,[46] Saints Row [47] and Gears of War.[48] Second-party developer Rare had two games at launch: Perfect Dark Zero, which was Rare's first major commercial success after their acquisition by Microsoft; and was believed by some to be the console's flagship launch title; and Kameo: Elements of Power. Only six games were initially offered in Japan, and eagerly anticipated titles like Dead or Alive 4 and [eM] -eNCHANT arM- were not released until several weeks after launch. Games more suitable to the region are planned or have since been released, such as Chromehounds, Ninety-Nine Nights, and Phantasy Star Universe. Microsoft-backed Mistwalker has since released Blue Dragon in the region, and currently has two other Japanese-style games in development, Lost Odyssey and Cry On. On October 19, 2006, over 10,000 pre-orders of a limited-edition Blue Dragon bundle sold out in Japan on the first day. The pack, priced at JP¥29,800 includes the Xbox 360 core system with a copy of Blue Dragon, along with a table calendar, Blue Dragon faceplate, and five miniature character figures.

E3 2006 was the first large-scale show after the console's launch and there, the first trailer for Halo 3, the sequel to the original Xbox's best selling game. Fable 2, a sequel to the Xbox's best-selling RPG, was also shown, along with Alan Wake, Mass Effect and Too Human. Bill Gates spoke of plans to integrate several Microsoft services into one entity with Live Anywhere. This service will allow multiplayer games and communication possible between Xbox 360 and the upcoming Windows Vista operating system for the PC. Shadowrun was the first game announced to be compatible with Live Anywhere. Several games originally released on PC have also been released on the Xbox 360, such as F.E.A.R. and Quake 4. Grand Theft Auto IV was shown and will be the first title in the series to be released for the Xbox 360 the same day as its PlayStation 3 counterpart. At X06, Microsoft announced new titles, along with information on future releases. Splinter Cell: Conviction, set to release after Splinter Cell: Double Agent, was announced to be exclusive to the Xbox 360, as were Bioshock and Banjo-Kazooie 3. At the event, Halo Wars was also announced, along with an Untitled Halo Project. Microsoft is publishing sequels to some of its more successful franchises on the original Xbox, such as Forza Motorsport 2, Project Gotham Racing 3 & 4, and Fuzion Frenzy 2. In addition to sequels, they have published original games based on new IPs such as Viva Piñata and Gears of War.

Central processing unit

The Xbox 360 takes a new approach to hardware compared to its predecessor. The CPU, named Xenon at Microsoft and "Waternoose" at IBM, is a custom triple-core PowerPC-based design by IBM. The CPU emphasizes high floating point performance through multiple FPU and SIMD vector processing units in each core. It has a theoretical peak performance of 115.2 gigaflops and is capable of 9.6 billion dot products per second. Each core of the CPU is simultaneous multithreading capable and clocked at 3.2 gigahertz. However, to reduce CPU die size, complexity, cost, and power demands, the processor uses in-order execution in contrast to the Intel Coppermine128-based Mobile Celeron used in Xbox which used more advanced out-of-order execution. The original chip uses a 90 nanometer process, although a 65 nanometer process SOI revision was originally planned for early 2007,[49] but it has been delayed until mid-2007.[50] A 21.6 GB/s front side bus, aggregated 10.8 GB/s upstream and downstream, connects Xenon with the graphics processor/northbridge. Xenon is equipped with a 1 MiB Level 2 cache on-die running at half CPU clock speed. This cache is shared amongst the three CPU cores.[51] The CPU also contains ROM storing Microsoft private encrypted keys, used to decrypt game data. The heat sink implemented to cool the CPU is composed of aluminum fins with copper base heat pipes. The heat sink is cooled by two 60 millimeter fans at the back of the console.

Graphics processing unit

While the first Xbox's graphics processing unit was produced by NVIDIA, the Xbox 360 uses a chip designed by ATI called Xenos. The chip was developed under the names "C1" and "R500".[52] Xenos contains 48 unified shader units, which are capable of both vertex and pixel shading operations. This is in contrast to older graphics processor designs which utilize separate specialized units for these tasks. The GPU package contains two separate silicon dies, each on a 90 nm chip with a clock speed of 500 MHz; the GPU proper, manufactured by TSMC and a 10 MB eDRAM daughter-die, manufactured by NEC. Thanks to the daughter die, the Xenos can do 4x FSAA, z-buffering, and alpha blending with no appreciable performance penalty on the GPU.[53] The GPU also houses additional capabilities typically separated into a motherboard chipset in PC systems, effectively replacing the northbridge chip. An aluminum heat sink is also implemented to cool the GPU; it is wider and shorter than the CPU heat sink.

The console features 512 MiB of 700 megahertz GDDR3 RAM on a 128-bit bus. The memory is shared by the CPU and the GPU via the unified memory architecture. This memory is produced by either Samsung or Qimonda.

The Xbox 360 has an extensive amount of bandwidth in comparison to its competition;[54] however this statistic includes the eDram logic to memory bandwidth, and not internal CPU bandwidths. The eDram internal logic to its internal memory bandwidth is 256 GB/s. The high bandwidth is used primarily for z-buffering, alpha blending, and antialiasing; it saves time and space on the GPU die. Between the eDram die and the GPU, data is transferred at 32 GB/s.[55] The memory interface bus has a bandwidth of 22.40 GB/s and the southbridge a bandwidth of 1 GB/s.

Audio and video

All games made for the Xbox 360 are required to support at least 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound. The console works with over 256 audio channels and 320 independent decompression channels using 32-bit processing for audio, with support for 48 kHz 16-bit sound. Sound files for games are encoded using Microsoft's XMA audio format. An MPEG-2 decoder is included for DVD video playback. VC-1 or WMV is used for streaming video and other video is compressed using VC-1 at non-HD NTSC and PAL resolutions or WMV HD. Unlike the original Xbox, voice communication is handled by the console, not by the game code, allowing for cross-game communication. There is no voice echo to game players on the same console; voice goes only to remote consoles. There are no digital video outputs such as DVI or HDMI; instead, HD-quality output can only be produced over VGA or component video. A wide array of SDTV and HDTV resolutions, up to 1080p after the fall software upgrade,[36] are supported by the console hardware.[56]

Storage

The Xbox 360 is equipped with a 12x DVD drive, capable of a maximum read rate of 15.9 MB/s, compared to Playstation 3's 8.6 MB/s.[57][58] Games are stored on standard dual-layer DVD-ROMs with 7 GB of usable space available for game content.[59] The option to apply a regional lockout to games is available to publishers, although DVD region codes are always enforced. Microsoft has implemented methods to prevent hacking through the drive. Later drive models have the external debug triggering removed and black hard glue added to cover all the chip and controller pins.[60] The drive is able to read both DVD±R and DVD±RW in addition to being able to play DVD-Video out of the box, unlike its predecessor, which required the purchase of an add-on remote. The system is also capable of playing standard CDs along with CD-R/RW, CD-DA, CD-ROM XA, CD-Extra, WMA-CD, MP3-CD, and JPEG Photo CD.[61] Some users reported problems with the disc drive, as when a user changes the console's orientation, the inserted disc may brush against the drive's pickup assembly and incur scratches to it.[62]

Announced at CES 2006 and first publicly shown at E3 2006, an external HD-DVD drive was released in North America on November 7, 2006, for $199.99, and in Japan on November 17, 2006, for ¥19,800. In Europe, the HD DVD drive will be released for €199.99/£129.99 in the UK, France, and Germany.[63] For a limited time, the HD DVD drive will be bundled with an Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote, as well as an HD DVD copy of Peter Jackson’s King Kong.[63] The drive will play HD DVD movies, although all Xbox 360 games will remain on the DVD format.[64] Microsoft has no plans to include an internal HD DVD player in future Xbox 360 designs.[65] The external drive connects to the Xbox 360 via USB and contains two integrated USB ports on the rear.

The Premium configuration of the system comes with an external hard drive and it is optional to separately purchase one for the Core. The detachable 20 GB hard drive is not required for standard games. The 2.5" hard drive is connected through a SATA interface and spins at 5400 rpm.

Xbox 360 also has a built-in 100BASE-TX RJ45 ethernet port, suitable for connecting to Xbox Live, and three USB ports.[61]

Up to four controllers are supported by the Xbox 360, in the wireless form. However, there is a maximum of three wired controllers, as the Xbox 360 only has 3 USB slots. Despite this, a USB hub can be used to extend the maximum number of wired controllers. The wired version of the controller can also be used as PC gamepad because it uses a USB connection, directly connected to the controller; the wireless controller cannot because it uses a wireless signal. A wireless receiver set to be released in 2007 will plug into the PC, allowing wireless Xbox 360 accessories to be used on the PC. An optional wireless force feedback racing wheel for racing games was released on November 1, 2006. The Xbox 360 controller is significantly different from the original Xbox controllers, the Duke and the S models. The black and white buttons have been replaced by bumper buttons, which are on the shoulder of the controller, right before the triggers. It is noticeably smoother, has a white-gray theme, and is very small and ergonomically built.

The Xbox 360 can connect to Xbox Live through an optional wireless network adapter on a home network through a wireless router. The Universal Media Remote can be used to control several functions of the console, including the Windows Media Center functions if connected to the network. Various other components for the console exist, such as decorative faceplates to change the physical appears of the console, wired or wireless headsets for communication over Xbox Live, and an Xbox 360 branded webcam called Xbox Live Vision.

According to EBgames website, the long-waited 256mb version of the memory unit has been changed to 512mb, the release date is set to be Mar. 1, 2007.

Physical appearance

The Xbox 360 is similar in form factor to its predecessor. It is slightly slimmer in every dimension, and the Xbox 360 is white and slightly concave, whereas the original Xbox was black and noticeably convex. It was designed by Astro Studios in cooperation with Hers Experimental Design Laboratory.[66] The front of the console features a "ring of light", which displays 4 illuminated quadrants either in red or green. When the lights turn red, the console has encountered a technical problem; the number of sectors illuminated informs a user what category the error falls into. The Xbox 360 has a weight of 3.5 kg (7.7 lb), about 350 grams lighter than the original Xbox. The console uses an external power supply with a 5 amp/100-120 volt AC input and DC output of 203 watts. An estimated 2 W of power are used while the console is in standby mode, a yearly usage of 17.52 kWh.[67] Saving the console size and weight, the power supply displaces 1300 cm³.[68]

Because of a manufacturing bottleneck for having started the massive manufacturing only 69 days before launching,[74] Microsoft was not able to supply enough systems to meet initial consumer demand in Europe or North America.[75] Many potential customers were not able to purchase a console at launch and the lack of availability led to Xbox 360 bundles selling on eBay at grossly inflated prices, with some auctions exceeding US$6,000. It was reported that 40,000 units appeared on eBay during the initial month of release, which would mean that 10% of the total supply was resold on eBay alone.[76] By year's end, Microsoft had sold 1.5 million units; including 900,000 in North America, 500,000 in Europe, and 100,000 in Japan.[77]

By the end of 2006, Microsoft expected to sell 10 million units,[78] a target it passed by 400,000 units.[1] Forecasted cumulative estimates of 13 to 15 million units are estimated by June 30, 2007.[79] It was also the best selling seventh generation console of the 2006 holiday season in the United States and second to Sony's Playstation 2 in U.S. holiday sales for all consoles.

On its release the Xbox 360 had become the fastest selling console in the Australian region. The console had the highest launch sales of any console released in the region.[80] and is the fastest to 100,000 consoles sold, a feat accomplished in just 7 months.[81]
